2023 Historic Buildings Survey

The primary goal of the project is to update an earlier reconnaissance survey of this area, completed in
1996, and complete the first intensive historic resources survey for the Village of Frankfort, which
provides important documentation to support the Village’s Historic Preservation Commission in its
objectives. The Village was awarded a Certified Local Government (CLG) Grant from the Historic
Preservation Division of the Illinois Department of Natural Resources to prepare the survey.

Past Actions:

On April 3, 2023, the Village of Frankfort entered into an agreement with McGuire, Igleski & Associates,
Inc. to prepare a Historic Buildings Survey for the central area of Old Frankfort. The survey is an
inventory of existing buildings and other structures that is used to document the Village’s historic
resources. The survey area includes the entire H-1 Historic District and the original town of Frankfort as
platted in 1855. Approximately 213 properties are included in the survey area. A map of the survey area
is provided on the other side of this letter (see map below).

All fieldwork, including data collection and photographs of buildings will be done over the course of
several weeks in June weather permitting. The consultants who will be conducting fieldwork will not
trespass on private property and will only observe buildings from the public right-of-way including local
streets, alleys, parkways and sidewalks.
