Garbage & Recycling

Homewood Disposal Logo

The garbage collector, Homewood Disposal, picks up at the curb on Monday. Refuse may be brought to the curb after 6:00 pm on Sundays.  Homewood has replaced 20 trucks with those that run on natural gas.  These trucks are quieter, have lower emissions,  more environmentally responsible, and will help control future fuel costs.

Each household is allowed three garbage cans and one large item per week.

Curbside RecyclingThe Village participates in a curbside recycling program and residents pay a monthly fee to cover the cost of service.

Recycling bins may be obtained by calling NuWay Disposal. NuWay will drop them off at your residence. Residents are allowed one bin per household at no cost. Additional bins may be purchased.

Larger recycling containers are available for lease from NuWay Disposal.

Recyclable materials include newspapers placed in brown bags or tied with string; glass; tin and aluminum cans; and #1, #2, #3,#4,#5 and #7 plastics (no #6).  NuWay has a new recycling center that takes 1-7 plastics (excluding #6).  Click here for a guide.

Each week NuWay Disposal sends a separate truck to pick up recyclables in Village-issued recycling bins. The bins must be placed at the curb by 6:30 a.m. on Monday mornings for pick-up to occur. Garbage, yard waste, and recycling pick-ups (three pick-ups in all) are staggered throughout the day.
