The mission of the Community & Economic Development Department (“CED”) is to enhance both our quality of life and our business environment, through extraordinary customer service and innovative programs. The Community and Economic Development Department strives to create a healthy and strong city community with beautiful neighborhoods and a thriving economy. The department provides a full array of economic development, planning and zoning, and neighborhood improvement services.
Mike Schwarz was appointed Community and Economic Development Director in May 2021. Mike has held management roles in the Community Development and Urban Planning fields and has served a variety of communities in the Chicago area and in the State of Iowa. Mike is a member of the American Planning Association (APA) and American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) and holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Urban Planning from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a Master of Urban Planning and Policy Degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago.
