The Village of Frankfort has one historic district located in the downtown commercial area and two locally designated landmarks, St. Peter’s United Church of Christ at located at 12 W. Sauk Trail, and a single-family home located at 204 Hickory Street. Any person may recommend significant sites or structures for local landmark designation.

A Certificate of Appropriateness (COA) is required for any designated landmark or any building, structure, or site located within the historic district before a building or demolition permit can be issued. Local landmark nominations and Certificates of Appropriateness are reviewed by the Historic Preservation Commission and evaluated using the criteria outlined in the Historic Preservation Ordinance (sections 154.30 and 154.43).
